IThrough the years, I have tried many products that claim to reduce frizz, maintain curls, and prevent dull, unhealthy hair. It has been the same length of time since I have seen results from any. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I finally got a haircut that really suited my hair type. If you have curls, I encourage you to look for a salon that specializes in cutting them to the right shape. It was a pleasure to get my haircut at More Than Curly in Aurora, CO, at www.morethancurly.com. This post will introduce you to three products they recommended to me. Let’s start with the fact that frizz never goes away. You can only tame it and live with it. You should also embrace your curls.
When I wear my hair curly, I receive more compliments than when I wear it straight. Having what we have is something that many women wish they had. These are some of the products I love, the reasons I love them, and how I use them. Please do not use Cantu, DevaCurl, or Quidad at the same time. It only takes one every time you wash your hair to achieve the desired look. I do not have a cheaper substitute for most of these products; however, I would not recommend them unless I knew they worked. Plus, you don’t need much.
1. Giovanni Direct Leave-In Conditioner: It has a creamy, non-greasy texture and is lightweight. Softens hair without leaving it feeling heavy. The average price is between $5.89 and $8.49.
2. Cantu Moisturizing Curl Activator Cream: I absolutely love this cream. Applying generously to wet hair and using a diffuser to dry will give you tight, wavy curls and amazing volume. The formula is lightweight and non-greasy. When you want big hair, this may be the product for you. The average price is between $5.99 and $6.99.
3. The DevaCurl Super Cream is my second favorite. The main ingredient is coconut oil, which makes it lightweight and silky to the touch. It gives your hair a high shine, very little frizz, and great volume when applied as I do with the Cantu Moisturizing cream. At $28.00, it is quite pricey.
4. Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel: This is my third favorite because it’s a gel. Gel tends to weigh down my thin hair too much. On days when I need less volume, I use this product. I prefer a product that gives me more volume. Apply generously, diffuse, and your curls will be shiny and natural-looking. For extra hold, mix a dime-size of Cantu Cream and DevaCurl Super Cream. With a price tag of $26.00, this is another expensive product.
5. Living Proof Amp2 Instant Texture Volumizer: I use this product more after I’ve dried and styled my hair. Apply a small amount to your roots with your palms. You will get better results if you do it with your head down. The average price is $25.00.
6. TRESemme Keratin Smooth or GK Hair Taming System with Juvexin: I like to apply these as the last step to boost shine in areas that appear dull, such as the ends. It conceals split ends and taming flyaways.
Kenra Volume Spray: This hair spray is worth every penny. It’s lightweight, won’t amplify frizz, and even when applied generously, it allows you to manipulate your hair without a stiff, sticky feeling. It offers a medium hold that looks natural. Though expensive for a hairspray, it averages around $17.00.
To wrap up, my daily hair routine includes shampooing, conditioning, patting dry my hair, using a leave-in conditioner, TRESemme Keratin Smooth, followed by one of my three favorite curl-enhancing creams. After that, I dry my hair with a diffuser, apply a root lifter to the roots, and then a shine serum (GK Hair Taming System). I finish by applying hairspray, and your hair will look healthy, and less frizzy, with natural hold and stunning curls. Using many products at once may seem like a lot, but you’ll love the results.”
