Living a creative life

Are there activities and areas in your life that are repetitive and boring, such as cooking meals, doing laundry, grocery shopping, house chores, driving your kids around, or even your job?
Maybe it’s time think differently, and start looking at these activities creatively. Doing so may not only change your attitude toward the activity, but it may make it more enjoyable, or if nothing else, bearable.
I’ve never been a big fan of cooking, I’m not creative enough, I feel it doesn’t always taste right, and so on. I’ve found that (although not necessarily creative), sipping a glass of wine while preparing meals cheers me up. Or you can be proud of the blessing it is for your family to enjoy a homemade nutritious meal. Think of it as an act of love.
My kids drive now, but if you still drive yours around, I think this could be a great opportunity for quality time and conversation, so have them put the headphones away during the ride.
Most of us are not fortunate enough to be working our dream job. The routine and lack of growth can sometimes be challenging to sustain, but a little creativity may do the trick.
You could try changing the way you think about your job; instead of complaining about how boring your job is, look for ways to showcase your skills to others within the company. Collaborate with co-workers to seek special projects that could highlight your skills. Take an online class on your lunch break to polish old skills or gain new ones. Surround yourself with creative people for new ways of doing the same old thing. If this doesn’t work, then don’t stick around and be miserable. I may be time to change jobs, and this exercise may help you decide if it’s time for a career change.
When I have to fold several loads of laundry, they usually sit in the laundry room for several days. Not because I’m overly busy, but because I don’t like doing it. Now, even though I still procrastinate, I turn on my favorite jam and fold away! Sometimes, my husband helps, and this gives us a chance to catch up on what’s going on at work, with the kids, or family gossip.
We all have to perform tasks we don’t want to do, but finding new ways to do them more creatively may help soften the burden. Open your mind to your creative self and see how your attitude changes. It’s not enough to simply live and get by. Decide today to live exuberantly and creatively.
