Is your fireplace in need of an update? There are simple things you can do to give your fireplace a much-needed makeover, and with not much cash. All you’ll need is a little paint and creativity.
First, chose the colors you want to paint your fireplace. I would suggest you chose colors from you existing décor.
Once you’ve picked your colors and painting supplies, begin taping the areas you would like to paint.
I picked two colors for my fireplace, a terracotta red and dark brown which matched my couch and curtains.
I taped the inside of the fireplace where I wanted the first color, in this case, the red. When the paint was dry, I removed the tape and started prepping the next area. I wanted my fireplace to appear like it had a frame around it so I placed the brown color as a border.
To finish the makeover, I added coordinating accessories and viola! I was able to turn my fireplace into a modern, and stylish focal point. This project may initially seem daunting, but once you see the results, you’ll be glad you did it.
COLOR COORDINATING One way to give adjoining rooms in ground-floor living areas a harmonious look is to paint them in colors with the same undertones, like the yellow-based red, khaki, and pumpkin used here. Keeping trim color consistent from room to room helps avoid any jarring transitions. Private areas that typically remain closed off from view—home offices, bedrooms, and powder rooms, for example—don’t need to tie in as closely with their neighboring spaces.
