Two years ago on Thanksgiving Day, my son Nathan was involved in a serious car accident. Because of his severe injuries, he lost his entire junior year.
To graduate with his friends, he had to attend summer school prior to his senior. He also had to take extra credit hours his senior year and additional online classes. In addition to all this, he had to perform 20 volunteer hours at an organization of his choice as part of his graduation requirement.
There were times I feared he wasn’t going to make it. I spent many nights encouraging him when he felt overwhelmed and exhausted.
On May 20th, 2017 Nathan graduated high school and walked with his friends just as he wanted. I could not be more proud. We hosted a celebration party with his friends and family to honor his accomplishment the night before his graduation ceremony. He looked so happy and relieved.
What’s next for Nathan? He wants to attend massage therapy school this fall since he is yet to decide what he wants to major in college. I know Nathan is going to do great things because he has the determination to do so.
As for me? I’ll to continue to support him, and enjoy watching him grow into an amazing man!
